Rathsallagh House

Rathsallagh House was converted from Queen Anne stables in 1798.

Winners of numerous awards including the Gold Medal Award for Country House of the Year and the Irish Breakfast Awards a record 4 times, Rathsallagh is a large country house with 35 rooms. Although it is located just one hour south of Dublin airport, Rathsallagh is set in a peaceful oasis of 260 acres of parkland.

Rathsallagh House has been owned and run by the O’Flynn family for over 30 years. It has a happy and relaxed atmosphere with log and turf fires in the bar and drawing rooms. The food at Rathsallagh is country house cooking at its best, Game in season and fresh fish are specialities.

Punchestown Racecourse

The national centre for equestrian and field sports is one of the best equipped in the world and provides facilities for every discipline of horsemanship, and at every level of experience. It also hosts one of Ireland’s best-known National Hunt race festivals and has race meetings on a regular basis. 15 to 20 minutes from Rathsallagh.

Glendalough

Glendalough (The Glen of the Two Lakes), a half hour drive away, is a valley celebrated equally for its beauty and for its historical and archaeological interest. The area also provides excellent rock-climbing, rough scrambling and ordinary hill walking. A visitor centre, located at the mouth of the valley, provides a unique opportunity to interpret the lives and time of the monks of Glendalough. 20 min drive from Rathsallagh.

Russborough House

Situated beside the Blessington Lakes, a short distance from Dunlavin, this beautifully furnished and maintained house built of granite is in the Palladian style. It has fine examples of plasterwork by the Francini Brothers and now houses the world-famous Beit Art Collection of paintings. The house also contains magnificent displays of silver, bronzes, porcelain, fine furniture, tapestries and carpets. 20 min drive from Rathsallagh. Baltinglass Abbey

In 1148 Dermot Mac Murrough brought Cistercian monks here from Mellifont to found a new monastery in Baltinglass. It has been caught up in many religious disputes over the centuries and is steeped in history. The visitor centre has relics from the monastery as well as historical information. 15 min drive from Rathsallagh.

Walking in the Wicklow Mountains

These mountains have some of the most breath-taking and rugged scenery in Ireland. Lugnaquilla mountain (3,039 feet), the second highest in Ireland is part of it, as is the Hollywood Glen which stretches for about 1.5 miles (2km) between Church Mountain (1,789 feet) and lesser hills to the west. The glen is traditionally associated with St. Kevin, who is said to have had his first hermitage here. There are fine panoramic views from the summit of Church Mountain. 20 min drive from Rathsallagh. Blessington Lakes

The Blessington Lakes are a renowned beauty spot, only 15 minutes from Rathsallagh. Coarse angling is available with abundant stocks of roach, perch and specimen pike. There is also brown trout angling. The E.S.B. Fisheries Conservation, Hydro Group, Ardnacrusha, Co. Limerick regulate fishing on the lakes.

There are also dozens of rivers and lakes in the surrounding area mainly containing brown & sea trout, salmon, pike, perch and the occasional roach and rainbow trout.

The Irish National Stud and Japanese Gardens

See the Irish horse industry in action at the National Stud, set very close to the world-famous Curragh racecourse, – right in the heart of horse country. The complex also includes the Japanese gardens, an amazing display of exotic plants and garden displays just 20 minutes from Rathsallagh.
